Hi all..
Something irritating...
In my pc, I got both win98 and winXP installed.
And sometime for like 3 months, I dint have any anti-virus software on my machine, but I was using the internet as usual. And when I finally installed anti-virus and scanned my machine, it had some 500 viruses, worms, trojans and lot of variants. I cleaned up the system. Now this a bit of history
I find that in XP, when I connect to the net(I still use a dial-up connection), it connects, but doesn't let me do anything with the connection, as in if i try to go to any website, I would get the message,"please connect to internet" or so. Even yahoo messenger and MSN messenger were not connecting, while I am connected to the net.
Strangely , when i reboot and startup in win98 and connect ot net, I would be perfectly able to browse, my chat client also would connect, et, al.
So I dint bother as somehow I am able to access the net. But, you see, win98 is not something I would call cool, when compared to XP.
I think my winXP is screwed up by some zombie virus, which uses up all the internet resources, Something like a Denial of service attack, I guess.
So anyone knows what my way out is? I have not gotten expert help yet. Thought of asking you guys before doing that....
Any solutions....
And yeah..thanks in advance.
Byee
P.S.:Am listening to the song "Uyirin Uyire" from Kaakha Kaakha now....Aaaaaaah..what a song...esp. KK's voice is too good. An all time favourite of mine...
And by the way, Coimbatore is kinda lovely in the mornings nowadays with heavy mist...Visibility is reduced though....but a sight to relish as soon as you look out of your bedroom window first thing after you wake up....

Try using "Spybot - Search & Destroy" software. It's free. Its a good anti-spyware, but its not completely an anti-virus. Try Norton for that.
Install "Spybot - Search & Destroy" and update it's spyware list first. Then use it, and follow it's instructions religiously.
Besides update your XP with latest service packs and other latest patches.
Hope it works! :)
In ur case, just try to check all the standard stuff...internet settings, try another browser if possible. If that dosen't work, then the error must lie in the OS subsystem. Removing and installing TCP/IP could help. (Ckeck MS site on how to do this). If nothing works, we always have the format! But solving the problem would be a good learning experience :)
there might be a problem that while repairing the virus/trojan the anti virus software would have screwed up certain importnant files.... happened many times in the college LAN too... the only solution that I have done is to remove XP and install it again... remember while upgrading any OS to Xp disable or uninstall the antivirus s/w first
